Our history
Prevailing Word Ministries UK came into existence in 1995 at Dalston, Hackney in East London. The first official gathering took place at a premise at Balls Pond Road in London. It was then officially launched at Canonbury Business Centre in Hoxton in September 1996.
According to Rev. George Adu-Poku, the Founding Minister, “The church’s name was as a result of a revelation and insight the Lord gave me as I was reading Matthew 16:16-19. I understood that the Lord Jesus was going to build His Church (and has now started building it), and that the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. So through Christ’s Word – the Sword of the Spirit, nothing will stand against the Church of the Lord Jesus.” This energized him and spurred him to begin the church.
The church began in the home of Rev. George with his wife Eunice, (who was then carrying their second daughter Patience), and their first born, Priscilla. So from a small and humble beginning, the church has now grown to an active membership of over 60.
